Riverhead Carnival - 2008

Sunny days: Our bottle tombola and handicraft with plants tents

The Indian summer weather on Sunday, September 21, ensured that visitors flocked to the Riverhead Carnival where many tried their luck at the Friends of Sevenoaks Hospital tombola competition.

It was a happy day providing a pleasant relaxing atmosphere for visitors. They had the chance to catch up with old neighbours and acquaintances and to chat to committee members on the stand to learn about the work of the Friends.

Secretary Tessa Murray said: “We made £681.09 so that is very satisfactory.”

The stall was next to delightful craft and plant stand run by Bessels Green Unitarian Church which is also donating all the proceeds to the Friends. So far another £215 has been raised and the Church will also be selling handicrafts at other local events in aid of the hospital.

Annual street collection success

Members of Sevenoaks Hospital League of Friends took to the streets with colourful collecting boxes on Saturday, July 19, to raise money for the hospital.

Luckily the rain held off although it was a trifle windy. It was a social occasion too as many people stopped for a chat before finishing their shopping.

It was another successful day for the friends as a grand sum of £661.54 was collected and the event also raised the hospital’s profile.

The money will be put towards the purchase of ultrasound equipment which enables patients to be diagnosed more quickly and without the need to travel to a hospital outside the area.
